London 2025 - Day Four

On Sunday, we headed up to Birmingham (about 100 miles north of London) to visit my cousin and her family.

We arrived at Euston Station in plenty of time for our train, so it was over to Pret a Manger for breakfast

I was so happy to see this holiday cup and asked for a dry one so that I could cut it apart for my December Daily album

The Christmas sandwich!

Heading over to take the train

But I couldn't pass up a photo op with this post box!

Uh oh, our train was cancelled.  We had to take the Tube from Oxford Circus to Marylebone to pick up another train.  I found step-free access to be hard to find at times, so this journey involved an adventure on the escalator (overcoming my morbid fear of the downwards escalator!)

Exiting the Tube station and heading to our new train at Marylebone

Sunday lunch at my cousin's family's favorite pub.  Left (Vic, Pamela and my cousin's son, David).  Right (my cousin's daughter, Helen, my cousin Jennifer, Jennifer's husband Terry and David's husband, Radek).  David and Radek picked us up from the train station.  It was our first time to meet Radek, and we hadn't seen Jennifer and her family since 2003.

A delicious roast turkey Sunday lunch

The pub was so cozy

We had a lovely visit - a walk down memory lane with lots of laughter and a few tears - and then it was time to head back to the station for the return trip home

Vic relaxing on the train

The Ritz Hotel beautifully decorated for the holidays

Traffic in London was crazy - cars, taxis, buses, and then there were these guys, Door Dash-like delivery on mopeds or electric bicycles - they zipped in and out of traffic like they had a death wish

Next up, another train trip, west this time.

  2. I think the Tube stations would be a challenge with a mobility issue. Even if there are not steps, there is so much walking and escalators too. How wonderful to see family!

  3. Fab photos! It makes me smile, the things I see every day like red post boxes are a novelty to you. Yay! I am so glad you got a proper pub Sunday Lunch, it looks so good!
Ahh! You get those delivery drivers on bikes everywhere now! They are crazy. I was in town today and they deliver on pushbikes and they were zipping between all the cars. Eek!
