Welcome to the Wednesday Hodgepodge! Here are this week's questions, which you should answer on your own blog and then pop over to Joyce's blog (click on the graphic for the link) Wednesday to add your link to the party.
1. I live in the south so we're pretty much only talking about the weather right now. Give us a weather report from where you live. Does the kind of weather you're having today affect your mood in some way?
It's cold here (nowhere near as cold as most of the country but it's cold nevertheless) - about 36 degrees. The car windshields are iced over in the morning but are melted by about noon. It doesn't affect my mood, as I like cold days when I'm cozy at home. I just wish we had a little bit of snow. As I told a friend, "A light snowfall that starts on Friday night, covers the ground over the weekend, but is melted by the time everyone has to hit the road for work or school on Monday". Not asking for much, am I?
2. Avocados, kale, cauliflower and cottage cheese have all had their time to shine. 2026 brings us the year of the cabbage. Is this a vegetable you like? If so, what are some of your favorite dishes that call for cabbage?
I like cabbage. I like it with corned beef, I like it the day after we have it with a roast dinner when I mix it with leftover potatoes and Brussels sprouts to make bubble and squeak, and I like it raw in coleslaw.
3. Was a Cabbage Patch Doll a part of your childhood? Or maybe your children's childhood? What's a toy trend from your childhood you remember wanting for your own?
No, I thought and still think Cabbage Patch Dolls are really ugly. I remember that they were so popular that people would pull their cars over to the side of the road, put the dolls on the roof, and sell them that way because the stores were completely sold out. I remember similar crazes for Teddy Ruxpin, Tickle Me Elmo, and Beanie Babies. A toy trend from my childhood would be Barbie. We all had Barbies with the outfits and the accessories.
4. Something you've spent a lot of time doing lately.
Trying to sift through our London photos to find a few to include in my annual December Daily album. I'm failing miserably as I can't make up my mind so far too many of them are ending up in the album. It's getting ridiculously thick. I have to add here that I am making a dedicated album for the trip but since it occurred in December, it has to feature in December Daily.
5. Somehow, it's the last week of January...sum up your month in just three sentences.
It's time to pack our Christmas away, it's time to plan our next trip, and it's time to plan something for December because I love to visit somewhere that is decorated for Christmas. I'm thinking about the Biltmore, has anyone visited?
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Speaking of Barbie, have you heard the one about Divorced Barbie which retails for $199. Why is it so expensive? Because she comes with Ken's house, Ken's car, and Ken's boat!

I have never been to the Biltmore but may go later this year. I do want to see it. If I go, it won't be in December but I'll bet that's a wonderful season in which to be there. Your random thought is really funny! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI live about an hour and a half from Biltmore and have been several times. It's beautiful! I was there over the Christmas holidays this year and every room has a gorgeous decorated tree in it, along with all the mantles and banisters being decorated too. So so pretty! I wrote about it with pictures if you look back on my blog sidebar to December-Christmas With The Vanderbilts. Barbies were big in our house too and my three year old granddaughter wanted one for Christmas so I guess they're still pretty popular. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'll check out your Biltmore post.
DeleteI am glad that it's not too cold with you. I like that type of snow, when it doesn't disrupt too much.
ReplyDeleteI used to love my Barbie dolls too.
I can just imagine how many photos you took in London. Good luck with sorting them.
hahaha! Your random thought did make me chuckle.
I live in the northeast so no I have never been down to the Biltmore but i highly recommend Boston on First Night if you've never been. It's amazing! my fave USA city and thankfully we are only about a 3 hour drive away.
ReplyDeleteYour random thought cracked me up! I had a tickle me elmo for our youngest daughter and i had to go to THREE malls before I found one. I would never do that now. :)
Enjoyed your answers. Evergreen State...Washington! you guys don't have any snow????
No, we have snow in the Olympics to the west and in the Cascades to the east but here on Puget Sound, it's just cold. I love Boston, lived there as a child, and lived in Rhode Island 2007-2012 so we made several trips up there.
DeleteI wrote about Barbies too, and had a laugh at your joke at the end. A weekend snow sounds perfect, as long as everyone keeps their power too.
ReplyDeleteI wrote more than I thought I could about cabbage, but completely forgot about bubble and squeak! How could I? We have it every Boxing Day w/o fail - but yours looks proper gourmet :o)
ReplyDeleteThe divorced Barbie joke made me chuckle!
Well hello to another "Pamela"! It seems the older I get the more of us I meet! It's so nice to meet you!! I am new at the Wednesday Hodgepodge this week, although I've read many posts by my friends who joined long ago, but I just never got around to it until this time, and it was primarily because of the Cabbage Patch Doll! LOL. Yes, they are so ugly they are cute, and I do have one, but did not get her until I was an adult. And yes, I have a Barbie, one of the almost original ones (1960), which I received for my 10th birthday, so that tells you how old I am. I love the funny joke a the end about the divorced Barbie. That's a good one. That Bubble and Squeak looks very interesting. Do you have a special recipe for it? Regarding the Biltmore House, we went years and years ago when our sons were really too young to appreciate it and I spent more time making sure they didn't touch anything, so I really couldn't enjoy it as much as I would like. I would love to go again someday, and I hear it is gorgeous at Christmas time.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to meet you here, and I hope you have a pleasant and not too cold of the rest of your week. I am in Florida, and we are expecting some record low temps this weekend, even a possibility of some snow, which would really be unusual! We'll see what develops! If it happens, I'll be sure to write about it. Blessings to you and yours!
Thanks for visiting my blog! I use whatever vegetables are left over from our Sunday roast dinner - usually boiled potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage. I sauté a little butter in a frying pan, add all the veg cut into small pieces, add salt and pepper, and squash it all down a bit with a spatula. When it's browned, I flip it over (never can manage it all in one piece!) and brown the other side.
