I hadn't heard of this trend until I read a few blog posts and then it was a question in the Wednesday Hodgepodge. I saved it for Friday because 2016 really was a favorite in so many ways.
It was an action-packed year for us - a seven-month deployment, a joyous homecoming, a dream job and then the end of the dream job, a cross-country move, and we were back in our old stomping grounds by Christmas. Here's a look back.
It was a gloomy, rainy day when the USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN-74) left Bremerton for its seven-month deployment
After a stop in Guam, it was off to Busan, Korea and a tour of the DMZ
Next up, Singapore
A few days relaxing by the pool in Manila, Philippines
Hawaii was the last stop before heading home - gotta have some shave ice
Vic reconnected with the best man and maid of honor from our wedding
And then it was home sweet home
Meanwhile, I moved from a job in Waterfront Administration to my dream job, Executive Assistant to the Executive Director but gave it up five months later to go with Vic to Virginia - we talked about my staying in Washington when he went off to his next assignment but after having been separated for seven months, we weren't ready for another separation
We had just a few months after Vic got home and before we headed to Virginia to do a little sightseeing - Mount Rainier National Park
Museum of Flight at Boeing Field
Future of Flight Aviation Centre and Boeing Tour - I can't remember how many football fields fit into the production hangar, but it was a LOT, it was huge
My sister and her family came up for a quick visit before we headed off to the East Coast - here we are heading to Seattle on the ferry
And Vic took everyone for a tour of the ship
Household goods all packed up, and it was time to hit the road - we headed down the Northern California coast
Through the Redwoods
A stop at Hoover Dam
Celebrating Thanksgiving in the Grand Canyon - it looks sunny, but temperatures got down in the 20s at night
Along the southern part of the United States, up through Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Kentucky and soon we were in Virginia where we stopped at the National D-Day Memorial
The Overlord Monument
Finally arriving in Norfolk, we moved right back into the military housing unit that we moved out of in 2014 - a lot of our nail holes were still in the walls!
Time for a holiday tea
A trip to Busch Gardens
Christmas Eve service at church and then the Melting Pot for dinner
The only tough part of 2016 was leaving these two in Washington, but Sophia would come out the following summer for a visit and then as it turns out, I headed back to Washington the next autumn when Vic got his orders to Okinawa
2016 was certainly a busy year!
