Christmas in July 2015 - Day Eleven

A little entertaining post to finish up this week's theme and a calendar to keep you on your toes.

I love this picture - it's from a 1950s Betty Crocker Picture Cook Book shared by Maggi at Circle 7-2099

Christmas in July 2015 - Day Ten

A few vintage home decor items today - just a little something for the foyer or to pop into a corner. I so admire the crafters who can take something old and make it into a statement decorating piece.

Christmas in July 2015 - Day Nine

Le pièce de résistance - the tree!

Retro Renovation
This is the tree we had for about the first ten years of my life - silver tinsel, each branch stored in a paper cover (provided you slipped it in in the right direction so that the springy-out parts folded up around the metal rod). I don't remember what color our bulbs were - will have to see if I can find a (color!) photo.

Shiny Brite ornaments were all the rage in the 50s and 60s and even a little after that. I don't know if we had Shiny Brites or not; how I wish I had saved a box of the decorations my parents used when I was little.

Christmas in July 2015 - Day Eight

It's time for the second half of this week's theme - Vintage. During my research of new and interesting ways to decorate that I hadn't thought about before, I found Vintage to be the most appealing. It's probably because many of the ideas are startlingly familiar - yikes, am I vintage?

I loved this first photo from Pinterest and the little caption that went with it - unfortunately, the link is broken, I had really hoped to read more.

back in the 50's a few presents and we were so thankful...now so commercilized, in hock through the next year and is it appreciated ? or expected by our children. However its not their fault its ours !! from inspiredbygiving.blogspot.com (no longer exists and not to be confused with inspired-by-giving.com)
We seem to have some photos similar to this one in our family album, black and white, tinsel on the tree, toys of this type, great family memories.

A great kick-off to Vintage rest-of-the-week can be found at the site linked below - there are some lovely vintage decorating ideas throughout Kelly's house.

There are a plethora of vintage cards on Pinterest, many leading to Ebay auctions. These were my favorites.

Outside of my UK friends, who had a Milkman? What's a Milkman you ask? Well, the sisters clearly remember having milk delivery, the glass bottles, the cream on top and remembering the Milkman at Christmas! (from the Ebay description for this card). I remember our milk delivery when we lived in England and the trouble I used to get into for breaking the foil seal and sticking my finger in the cream at the top!

Christmas in July 2015 - Day Seven

The final installment of Shabby Chic before we move on to Vintage and I'll leave you with a couple of cute home decor pieces. We've definitely moved from the frilly to the rustic now.

A design by Hollylocks & Hydrangeas - no longer available
From Rescued and Repurposed - again, no longer available
I've listed the sites in case you're interested in Shabby Chic decor - Christmas designs will appear again no doubt as we get closer to the holiday season.

And since I haven't featured one yet in Shabby Chic - a card.

Christmas in July 2015 - Day Six

It's time to get our frill on - ok, maybe not quite so much as yesterday and today, we'll have a bit of a color burst at the end.

Tablescape first, elegant and with a touch of burlap/beige to tone things down.

Burlap Wedding Inspiration & Ideas
Cute little lanterns - you could use them instead of the votives in the tablescape above but you'd have to carry the pine theme into the centerpiece. I'd ditch those silver things on the candles as well.

And finally, a bit of color...kind of cute if you're into roughing up some old wooden soda crates.

That's all for today and wow, almost no frill! Moving more into the rustication - of becoming rustic - I mentioned yesterday.

Christmas in July 2015 - Day Five

Here we go - Week Two - Vintage/Shabby Chic and I am so out of my comfort zone. First of all, I had to look up the definitions - what exactly do the terms mean? The easiest way to describe them, I think, is like this:

Vintage = old
Shabby Chic = something made to look old

Does that work for you?

I found that a lot of Shabby Chic is greatly influenced by not only ruffles, bows, and beads, but also rustication (another I know that's not a word but it's the perfect term!). You'll see what I mean as the week goes by.

Let's start off with the ruffles, bows, and beads.

I had to laugh at part of the caption "If you have to spell it out with tiny cherubs and a white peacock, you’ve probably overdone it." Forgive me, but it looks like a cross between a Victorian Madam's receiving room and Scarlett O'Hara's boudoir! Overdone? Yep, that's the word for it.

Continuing on with a stocking for the mantel (although, honestly, where would you put it?).

I suppose if you had a little girl who was all into ribbons and bows, this would be a nice gift.

And finally for today, before we all go into a frill coma, a pretty selection of ornaments and pearl do-dads. Again, if girly-girl decor is your thing, go for it.

Also from Jenn Elise Rose
All tongue in cheek, of course, to each his/her own, I say.
