Happy Homemaker Monday 2/7/2017

The weather:::
The usual ups and downs - as high as 70 tomorrow, as low as 49 on Friday.  Some rain is forecast - I love a good rain.

On my reading pile:::
The pile is unchanged, I just haven't picked anything up this week.  I really need to pick a time each day to sit down and read.

On my TV:::
Mercy Street, Victoria, and the Great British Baking Show Masterclasses now that I've finished Seasons 1 through 3.  Vic and I have started Outlander from the beginning.

On the menu for this week:::
Monday - One-Pan Herb-Crusted Roasted Salmon with Roasted Carrots
Tuesday - Meatloaf, Baked Potatoes, Brussels Sprouts
Wednesday - Chicken Korma
Thursday - Steak, Roasted Red Potatoes, Sauteed Mushrooms
Friday - Something with chicken
Saturday - Korean-Style Short Ribs, Oven Roasted Cabbage and Potatoes
Sunday - Leftovers

Our menu is getting boring - after a burst of trying new recipes, we're back to the same old favorites.  I need to go through the cookbook again and try a few new things.

On my to-do list:::
  • Still working on the office - it will be done by tomorrow.
  • Appointment with my new doctor - hope all my labs are within range and don't end up getting me a lecture.
  • Lunch plans - Vic's bringing his inspection crew here for lunch one day this week since they are working close by.
  • Brunch with a new spouses' group.  It's one of those total strangers meeting for the first time over brunch type of deals - I used to be terrified of this type of thing but the last time I organized one, I met some ladies who became very dear to me.

What I am sewing, crocheting, knitting or creating:::
Fun with frosting - Vic and I signed up for a four-week Buttercream Skills class by Wilton at our local Michael's.  We had so much fun on Saturday.  Vic is such a good sport.  We are trying to come up with new and interesting things to do this tour since he's going to be gone so much of the time.  First on the list, cake decorating classes!

The Double Bag Swirl
Mastering the loop - who says men in flannel don't have great piping skills?
Looking around the house:::
Run and then empty the dishwasher, a load of towels, vacuum, figure out some sort of table decoration for the lunch.

From the camera:::
Last Friday was our Sunday School class's cornhole tournament and potluck event.  We had a great time and Vic has quite a knack for cornhole.  He loves this shirt - it's flannel on the outside and fleece on the inside and he's wearing jeans lined with flannel.  He hates to be cold.

Something fun to share:::
I found these at my local supermarket - these sugars are often listed as ingredients in some of my British recipes.  I often wonder if my regular white and brown sugars will make a difference in the bakes - now I'll have the real thing.  They'll have to be for special occasions though, look at those prices!

I'm not really bothered about football.  I watched Victoria last night and when it ended, I typed in Super Bowl LI on my phone - the score was 28-28 with less than a minute to go.  I had to turn the TV back on and catch the last play.  What a game!

What I'm wearing today:::
Jeans, pink long-sleeved shirt, Dansko clogs.

Bible Verse, Devotional:::
Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.  If one person falls, the other can reach out and help.  But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.  (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)

  2. Oh how fun, cake decorating classes with the hubs! The game definitely took a turn. I was rooting for the Falcons... even though I don't care much about the game, I always go with the underdog. Have a great week!

  6. Oh, that would be such fun to play with frosting and do all those cute swirls. And, especially since cupcakes are all the rage!

  7. I ordered something for my office/craft room today. That means I have to get it cleaned up and make room for this large item before it is delivered. Yikes.

    That is one of my favorite verses. :)

  8. How fun to take a cake decorating class together. Your hubby definitely has piping skills. (Mine does too -- years ago I decorated a wedding cake for someone and he made most of the roses for me!)

    I've been trying to spend time reading each day also -- 15 minutes, with a cup of coffee or tea. So far I think I have managed to do this once a *week*!

    How nifty that you found those British baking ingredients at your supermarket! Who would have thought?

  9. How fun to do a class with your husband! I think you could use US sugars for any British recipe. The biggest difference I noticed there was a slightly different baking powder and flour.
