If you've watched The Great British Baking Show, you'll know that there is an episode titled "Pastry Week" in every series. This popped up on my Facebook the other day - a sample of some of the yummy pies that are available in British grocery stores or made at home although shepherd's pie doesn't have a pastry crust. There is nothing better than a pie, warm from the oven, served with chips or mashed potatoes. Banoffee Pie is a delicious dessert.
So appropriate for the day. Isn´t today Pi Day? I must be part British because I LOVE a good pie. All these varieties are making me swoon. I want all of them!!
ReplyDeleteIt is Pi Day! I didn't even think of that when I put up my post even though I was talking at length about pie last night at our small group meeting.
DeleteI am sure I would love any of those pastries! Maybe you've mentioned this and I've missed reading, but are you from England? I'm just curious!
ReplyDeleteMy Mum was British and we spent a lot of time there was I was young when my Dad was away for work for extended periods. We lived there when I was a teenager and my parents retired there.
DeleteOh, okay. What a great childhood that must have been for you on into your teen years. I hope you get to visit often!
DeleteIt's lovely to see all these pies! I really must watch that show. Our son and daughter-in-law love it. I made a Shepherd's Pie last week, one of the family favorites. I also found a place that makes British Bangers that I treat us to occasionally. It's called Jolly Posh. I read your comment to Jennifer. So interesting your Mum was British. You and our son have something in common. He also was brought up going back and forth when he was young, and has great memories of our times with my Mum and Dad. I haven't been back in years and we said we would like the four of us to go one day, hopefully sooner than later. Happy Friday and have a great weekend coming up Pamela.
ReplyDeleteI really must attempt a Banoffee Pie one day! My husband has always preferred pie to cake. I used to resist, but I've come around to making pies a lot more often than I used to. I also make savory pies like quiche, chicken pot pie, tomato pie, etc.
ReplyDeleteI do love a pie, sweet or savoury.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that Banoffee Pie was British until reading this. I just assumed it was American as it's so good. hehehe
My favourite pie is a pork pie or minced beef and onion which has to go with mashed potato and lots of gravy. I never think of the cheese and onion pie as a pie, I would call that a quiche.
The only one I've had is Sheppard's pie but we have a few other savory pies we've made through the years.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! "Pastry Week" on The Great British Baking Show is always a treat for the viewers, showcasing the contestants' skills in creating delicious pies and pastries. Shepherd's pie may not have a pastry crust, but it's certainly a beloved classic dish. And who can resist the allure of a warm, freshly baked pie served with chips or mashed potatoes? Banoffee Pie adds a delightful sweet touch to the mix, making it a perfect dessert option. Thanks for sharing these mouthwatering treats! 🥧✨
