If this is Tuesday, it must be England #117

Robert Hardy, Christopher Timothy, and Peter Davison as Siegfried Farnon, James Herriot, and Tristan Farnon in the 1978-1990 television series, All Creatures Great and Small

Sophia and I are huge All Creatures Great and Small fans.  If we've been apart for any length of time, we reconnect with chips and gravy for dinner and a mini-marathon of "James", our name for the series.  We have all the DVDs, the books on audio cassette, and all the children's versions of James Herriot's delightful stories of his time as a vet in the Yorkshire Dales.  We've even been to the actual house, now a museum, of the real James Herriot, Alf Wight, in Thirsk, England which has sets from the television series.

We're really excited to see that the 2020 remake of the series is coming to PBS in January.  Check out the trailer here.

I'm loving Samuel West (top left) as Siegfriend and Callum Woodhouse (top right) as his brother, Tristan, but Nicholas Ralph as James and Anna Madeley as Mrs. Hall are a couple of unknowns (to me) although this review from Michael Hogan of The Daily Telegraph has me really looking forward to January:

"Revisiting the world of All Creatures Great and Small felt like meeting old friends. Any viewers missing the classic triumvirate of Robert Hardy, Christopher Timothy and Peter Davison were surely converted by this well-crafted opener, confidently directed by Downton Abbey alumnus Brian Percival."

  1. I can't wait for this one. Interesting that they chose an unknown for the main role!
