Happy Belated Birthday to The Duchess of Edinburgh who turned 59 on January 20th. Formerly Sophie Rhys-Jones, then Countess of Wessex upon her marriage, Sophie took the title Duchess of Edinburgh when her husband, Prince Edward, was created Duke of Edinburgh by King Charles III on March 10, 2023.
The Duchess had a career in public relations until 2002 at which time she became a full-time working royal with charity work revolving around people with disabilities, women's rights, avoidable blindness, and agriculture. Married to the late Queen's youngest son since 1999, Sophie is mother to Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and James Mountbatten-Windsor, Earl of Wessex.
She enjoyed a warm relationship with the late Queen and Prince Philip. She is close to The Princess of Wales and The Princess Royal and is a treasured member of the Royal Family.
She's one of my faves.
